Are you nailing your message?

While in Bucerias, Mexico, I enjoyed watching how the Mexicans do a great job of promoting their products and services. One of the highlights was a man who sells hats from his pickup truck.hattip

On display was a large sign geared specifically towards tourists from Canada and the United States. It said “Your attention, please. I am the Hatman, not Batman. Nor am I Robin. Hatmobile, not Batmobile. Do not get mixed up.”
This sign is funny, draws people’s attention and creates conversation.

Humour in advertising, if done well, can create a high-impact message. For hat sales, this works even if what the sign says is very silly. Based on your target market, you need to decide what the tone of your message will be. If you are selling insurance your message may be serious and hard-hitting, touching on themes of relief or doing the right thing. If you are selling furniture or fireplaces, it would likely carry an inviting or encouraging tone.
