If It’s Deluxe, It Better Mean Deluxe Service

During my most recent business trip, I truly felt like the red carpet had been rolled out just for me.

One of my clients was hosting a customer-appreciation event for their top customers. I was asked to be their key presenter just prior to lunch on the second day of the event. When I found out where the event was, I immediately looked it up on Google. I became both excited and nervous. The resort looked so deluxe I could hardly wait to go and, at the same time, I started to feel some pressure after realizing the importance of this high-calibre event.Sept 17 tip

When I drove up to the Taboo Resort, I was blown away by how impressive this resort truly was. My client was very generous and gave me a premium suite with a lake-front view for two nights. I could hear the waves from the lake just outside my patio door window. Additionally, the en-suite gas fireplace gave the space a soothing warmth in the cool evening air.

What I noticed on arrival was how incredibly friendly staff members were, starting with the valet parking attendant at the concierge station. I felt overwhelmingly welcomed. The spirit of this work environment was in sync with the resort’s physical environment.

My positive experience kicked off the night before with my arrival at Sheraton Hotel located right at the Toronto Pearson International Airport. This hotel’s busiest time of day is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – right when my flight arrived. The person who checked me in gave me an awesome upgrade so I could have a quiet room. No matter what the role was of the staff, they had all been trained to connect with guests. I must have had 10 people ask me how things were going or how I was doing over a period of less than 12 hours.

Although my accommodations were covered by my client, I very quickly came to appreciate the value of the deluxe service I received. It made my trip a very pleasant experience. It matched up perfectly with the expectation that when one pays for a deluxe service, the expected quality of customer service must be equivalent to or in excess of the price. In my experience, both the Sheraton Gateway and the Taboo Resort fully exceeded my expectations.
