Doing What You Love Isn’t Always Easy
We all have a different level of comfort in our personal and professional lives. Stepping out of this zone at times can be distressing. I believe it is often the fear of “what might or might not happen” which keeps us stuck in that zone.
I know that, for myself, I have a much easier time stepping out of my comfort zone when it comes to my business. In fact, owning a business has helped me to really stretch my limits in all aspects of my life. The reason I am able to take more risks in my business is because this is where my income comes from, and because of my strong motivation to do meaningful work. This passion is one of the driving forces in my life.
Meaningful work doesn’t mean that I love or even like everything I do to have a successful business. Yet, it means I am driven to do what needs to be done in order to be able to do what I most love to do. I am willing to get on the phone and make sales calls. I am willing to do what is necessary to follow up with those I have made contact with in order to do what I love to do.
Last week I heard Joe Forzani who used to be part of the Forzani Group. He made two statements that really resonated with me. The first was: “It’s not time management. It’s activity management.” The second was: “When you want to succeed as much as you want to breathe, that’s when you will be the most successful.”
If you can find the sweet spot that sparks you in your life to do what you love and generate a healthy level of revenue as a result, then you have likely stepped outside of your comfort zone to do it.
What steps have you taken to focus on doing what you love to do and be profitable in the process?
