Professionalism Starts With Proofing

Many of you already know that I am faced with the day-to-day challenge of dyslexia. Although it may sound like a drag, the truth is that I have learned to be very strategic as a result. Since my early twenties, this has helped me hone my craft as one of Canada’s top marketing experts.

There have been hundreds of speed bumps along the way, and through the lessons I have learned, one of the most beneficial has been to hire others to do what I do poorly. One of the best decisions I have made was to have 90% of my work proofed by a professional proofreader or copy editor.

Have you ever known exactly what you want to say, yet the way you express it on the page is less than perfect? Well, this is one of the perks of having a professional set of eyes comb through your documents. They can find typos and grammatical errors and polish your document to make it read more fluidly.
I have been working with Keith MacKenzie for a number of years now. By hiring him to proof and edit my work, not only does my work look and sound more professional, it also sets Lift Strategies apart from the competition.

Keith brings a wealth of experience to the table, with more than 15 years of professional writing, proofreading and editing expertise under his belt. Keith has worked in the United Nations Development Programme in Kiev, Ukraine, as the man who polished off English-language documents written by Ukrainians and Russians. He also worked three years in The Source Multicultural Newspaper in Vancouver as an editor-in-chief. He is now approaching five years at Vancouver’s 24 hours newspaper doing very much the same work. As a proofreader and editor, he comes highly recommended.

  1. Hi Jen,
I’d like to take this moment and thank you for that lovely workshop I attended in Tumbler Ridge a few weeks ago. Its great getting input from primary sources such as yourself. I’m the lady that said I wanted to get contracts by the end of the year, remember me? Well, in fact since you put that on, things have changed for me a bit. In fact, before I attended that coal forum, I was on the verge of giving up…now in real perspective, I don’t want to do that, so I go out and do everything I can to get work..Give it my best I say. Anyways, I’d like to let you know that you’ve inspired me a great deal with that marketing tip “Professionalism Starts With Proofing”. I just finished a training program and learnt how important it is to have someone else proof read your material before it goes out. All along I was wondering what was I doing wrong, and nobody would tell me either. Some of the material I sent out, wasn’t professional in their eyes and I can see that now. So I have someone to proof read my stuff just to get it right. This is so awesome. Now I can look a bit more professional in their eyes and have more confidence. Thanks again, and I will be sure to recommend your company out to my friends that are in dire need of this service. Have a great day Jen.
    Sincerely
    Cheryl

    1. Cheryl,
Success is all about taking action. I am impressed with your ability to recognize what wasn’t working for you and then the steps you have taken to improve your situation. Good job.

      All the best to you,

      Jen
