Tune In To Affordable Marketing
This year I’ve had the privilege of presenting and training in smaller business communities in B.C. and beyond. What I love most about traveling to the smaller cities and towns are the amazing people I’ve met and lessons I learned.
In places like Fort Saint John, Smithers, Prince Rupert and Terrace, business owners can afford to include radio advertising as part of the marketing mix. What may cost between $13 to $22 per spot in the smaller communities, would be $100 – $200 per spot in Vancouver. Although the reach and listenership is substantially less outside of Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto or Montreal, the audiences in small cities and towns reach can be very effective.
Radio is a unique medium in which a story can be told. This is different from print, direct mail or Internet marketing. If your local radio station reaches your ideal customers and cost less than $20 per spot, you may want to consider it as one of your marketing layers.
Remember, you first need to know who your ideal customers and confirm that the radio station you are considering broadcasts the people you want it to reach. Once you are able to confirm this, then talk to the sales rep to determine what type of exposure you can get to build brand over a 9 to 12 month period. You might be surprised at how many new and repeat customers you get walking through the door without breaking the bank.
